Our Story
Crafting Delightful Experiences
Ritas Reign is a Afro-Caribbean, family run street food business in the heart of Manchester also known as "Rita's". Our concept is made up of fresh home cooked food ready to go style. We have fused Ghanian with Jamaican recipes to create a simple menu full of flavour.
Mission & Ethos
Rita’s Reign embodies the true essence of the love for food, the love for family, community and the love for feeding the community by creating a deliciously memorable experience for the consumer. Ritas Reign cuisine is consistent, nostalgic, of quality and we also aim to embody that within our customer service.
Being Boneless...
Unlike majority of Afro-Caribbean establishments we offer boneless with a manageable spice level; we sell home made Ghana Shito for the spice lovers and offer a home made slaw for those who like it cooler. We are halal, we have vegetarian and vegan options, gluten free options, and have no nuts or handle any fish.

Who do we cater for?

An important factor on this journey is ensuring we are looking after the environment within our operational processes. Some of the ways we do that is by:
-
using biodegradable packaging
-
we use wooden utensils
-
we sell carton water instead of plastic
-
we recycle our plantain skins to a partner who compost
-
We have a partnership with Booker Oil who recycle our used oil
We are located at Piccadilly street food market, Piccadilly Gardens, Manchester
You will find us at the end facing Mcdonalds & Boots
Monday - Saturday 10:30am-6pm.
We cater for corporate events, festivals, weddings and any celebrations.
Meet Rita
Born and raised in Kumasi, Ghana, I learnt to cook from the age of 7. I embarked on my travels to Manchester at 18 with my family and met my husband at Mosside market where we both worked, i was 22, he was 21.

History
cl

With my husbands previous entrepreneurship and operations skills, my mothers support, my children's worth ethic, combined with the love of food and the love of community, we created a business to support my family and to eventually buy a house again.
We made that happen in 2024 and we couldn't be more grateful for the support of our children, our team, the community and our amazing customers and clients.

"he fell in love & then with my cooking" - Rita
"it was the other way round..."
- Darren
I have a passion and love for cooking and feeding people! My mother passed this down to me and my three brothers and it has also been passed down to my children and my nieces and nephew. In 2005 we went through some financial hardship and my husband filed for bankruptcy which was a very taxing time for us. However, it was a blessing in disguise as I was forced to seek to work, opportunities and my husband came away from a role which was extremely heavy and stressful. We worked for an acquittance of Darren's on burger vans outside of Old Trafford for 10+ years, including my children where we developed a lot of experience in the outdoor catering industry. My husband also progressed in a procurement role where I would make meals for the office and realised there was a demand for my food!

"Paying my family salaries is a blessing, being able to pay wages to non-family is a blessing, feeding the people of Manchester and encountering people who just need a little something in their day to make them smile... is a blessing. I truly love what I... we do. So thank you to all the customers & clients, loyal & new"

Testimonials & Reviews
Customer & Client Reviews
What can I say about this place?! Amazing would be a good place to start! I discovered Rita's Reign when I started working in the city centre. One day I checked out the food market in Picadilly Gardens and saw this market stall, and I love Caribbean food so this was a no brainer for me to try! And since that day I went back almost every week!
First of all Rita is such a lovely person who is very chatty and welcoming, as are all the staff that work on the stall! Then the food...well the food is absolutely delicious! I usually go for the curry goat with jollof rice and a dumpling, plus salad and her amazing homemade coleslaw.

Thanks Abena and Rob for organising our Ghanaian food extravaganza. The Goat curry with Jollof rice was to die for the boys said the Jerk chicken was the best takeaway they've ever had!!! Thanks for running around and delivering it to us. Pass our thanks to Rita Rita Rita!!!!
honestly can't tell you how banging this meal was from @ritasreignstreetfood! I am all about the plantain and this did not disappoint. The Ghanaian jollof and jerk chicken was ah-maz-ing! The Jamaican patty was wow. I can't tell you how much I wish I could just go down the road in Glasgow to get food like this like!
Rita's Reign has been getting all the love of late and for good reason too. Her Afro Caribbean street food stall is one of the most popular at Piccadilly Street food market, dishing up big boxes of dumplings, plantain, curried and roasted meats and what is known coloquially amongst her fans as simply "the purple stuff".
